At Joseph Whitaker School in Mansfield, one former pupil remembered an occasion when an entire class was caned after a fire door had been opened and no individual admitted responsibility. She also recalled being punished for allegedly smoking in the lavatory, despite maintaining that she had not smoked at all.
A former pupil of Mornington High School in Wigan remembered receiving the slipper from a teacher, Miss Whittaker, who assured her beforehand that the punishment would not be severe because it was her first offence. She later reflected that the experience was considerably more painful than expected.
At Mortimer Comprehensive School in South Shields, one former student recalled meeting a former teacher years later and introducing herself as the pupil who had once received the cane from her.

A former pupil from Mountain Ash Comprehensive School in South Wales described a particularly difficult relationship with an accounts teacher, which culminated in disciplinary action from her form teacher, who caned her across the hands.
At Netherhall School in Cambridge, one pupil recalled receiving the slipper from the headmistress herself.
Former students of Netherstowe High School in Lichfield remembered a teacher whose frequent confusion over pupils’ names was both amusing and distressing, particularly when accompanied by physical punishment.
One former pupil from Norfolk School in Sheffield recalled being caned in 1973 after answering a dinner lady disrespectfully and refusing to go outside during heavy rain.
At North Axholme School in Scunthorpe, former pupils remembered Mrs Thornton, the headmistress, as particularly enthusiastic in administering the cane, often for relatively minor classroom misdemeanours such as laughing during lessons.
Memories from North Chadderton Comprehensive School in Manchester similarly reflected the routine nature of corporal punishment. Former pupils described receiving the strap for infractions ranging from poor spelling test results to eating confectionery during lessons.
At High Ridge School in Scunthorpe, one former student recalled a teacher known for using a cane referred to by pupils as “The Brute”.
Former pupils from Hill Top High School in West Bromwich and Hollins High School in Manchester also remembered receiving the cane for classroom misconduct.
At Holmwood Secondary School in Slough, one former pupil stated that he received the cane on numerous occasions from a rural studies teacher.
Memories from Honley High School in Kirklees suggested that even minor uniform infringements, such as wearing incorrect socks, could result in punishment with the slipper.
Former students of Horley Comprehensive School recalled being struck with a slipper across the back of the legs for disciplinary offences.
At the Hundred of Hoo Comprehensive School in Kent, one former pupil remembered physical education staff administering the slipper for breaches of discipline.
A former pupil from Hurn Court School in Christchurch recalled being slippered after leaving a dormitory during the night to visit the lavatory.
Perhaps among the most striking recollections came from Huyton with Roby Secondary School in Liverpool, where former students remembered a music teacher who kept a collection of canes of varying thicknesses in a jar and instructed pupils to choose which one would be used for their punishment.
