At one school, Mrs Shervington was remembered for administering punishment with considerable severity. Former pupils recalled that a summons to her office frequently resulted in painful punishment with either a slipper or pump shoe upon the hands.

Another former student recalled both Mrs Shervington and a second female member of staff, who was remembered for her stern appearance and unusual manner. According to recollections, she was reputed to raise herself dramatically before delivering punishment with a gym shoe.

One former pupil stated that he received six strokes from Miss Shirvington after being discovered smoking in the outdoor lavatories.

Former students of Sleaford County Secondary School in Lincolnshire similarly recalled strict discipline. One former pupil described Mrs Reese, the deputy headmistress, as particularly feared for her use of the cane. Others remembered Mrs Gresham and Miss Churchill, whose stern manner left a lasting impression upon many pupils.

At Solway Community School in Cumbria, former students reflected upon their school years with mixed feelings, remembering both moments of enjoyment and frequent recourse to corporal punishment.

Memories from Spittal School in Berwick included accounts of Mr Thompson, who was said to administer punishment with a slipper in a manner pupils found especially painful.

Former pupils of St Albans RC High School in Manchester recalled a number of memorable teachers. One former student stated that Mrs Murphy once punished her for incorrectly spelling her own name, despite her insistence that no error had been made. Another recalled Mr Sullivan, an English teacher remembered fondly many years later, while noting that Mrs Sullivan frequently used the strap as a disciplinary measure.

At Stamford High School in Ashton-under-Lyne, pupils remembered waiting outside Miss Warren’s office to receive punishment with the cane. Another former headmistress, Miss Hedge, was recalled for her forceful and theatrical manner when administering discipline.

Accounts from St Anne’s High School in Durham included recollections of pupils being sent to Mrs Ward for physical punishment.

At St Anne’s RC High School in Stockport, one former pupil recalled being caned by a teacher named Swindells after leaving school premises without permission. Another remembered a science teacher who allegedly made a pupil stand with her nose against a desk for an extended period before administering six strokes of the cane.

Former pupils of St Anne’s RC High School in Bolton described Mrs Denton as strict with the cane, though also respected by many students.

At St Bede’s School in Carlisle, memories included public reprimands before the entire school for smoking, followed by corporal punishment in the headmaster’s office. One former student reflected that the experience ultimately discouraged her from smoking altogether.

Former students of St Benedict’s RC School in Leeds frequently recalled Miss Freeman, who was regarded as both severe and intimidating. Several pupils remembered receiving regular punishment from her, although one former student noted that their relationship became more cordial by the end of her school years. Sister Augustine was also remembered for strict discipline, particularly regarding smoking and behaviour.

At St Columba’s Comprehensive School in Liverpool, former pupils recalled routine use of the cane for offences such as running in corridors or general misconduct. Teachers including Miss Fennerty and Miss Stewart were remembered vividly by former students many years later.

Finally, former pupils of St Blaise Middle School in Bradford described disciplinary practices that included caning for leaving school grounds during lunchtime and strict enforcement of uniform standards during morning assembly.
