The girl, again around my age I think, was whinging just once too often about lack of time in toy shops. She was unlucky enough for there to be no chairs handy, so Mum had to improvise-there was a tressle-type affair nearby for stacking top shelves(before the days of “daleks”) & missy was over that, with shorts and knickers pulled down for 6 smacks. I know it’s over 45 years ago, but I’d swear those 6 were worse than the boy’s 12 & not just because of the bare bum-the swing Mum put in here was ferocious-should’ve thought it was heard in Woolwich! The blubbering lassie was quietened by the threat of a repeat from Father’s belt at home unless the wailing ceased-it did!
