Now was it because he had sussed me and seen I was really a boy, or was it because he thought I was a girl and fancied me? His eyes sort of smiled at me, looking at me gently and just as mum came back with the coffee he smiled again with the kind of loving cute smile that I knew from when “I was a boy” that said he fancied me.
“Mum,” I said quietly, “don’t look round now, but I think that lad over there thinks I’m a girl and fancies me.”
