Peter led me down the drive to the car, opened the door and helped me in. I was careful not to show him anything too much higher up my leg, using my hand to hold down my skirt, while at the same time using the other to stop my skirt creasing in the seat.
This wasn’t easy. I had never appreciated how difficult it was for a girl with a short shirt to just do a simple thing like getting into a car without it affecting her modesty. But I managed it – handbag and all.
